"It's definitly the time to take initiative in the Kolkata region. The thing which I am really worried in this circumstances, is about the mis-interpretation of Internet among the school children. The thing which we can start as of now, is start a online student magazine where we could have put off articles or papers for proper internet guidance. The E-Zine will be open for any article submission by students also. We can contact the Government and schools for memberships and promotions."

Cybercafe Certification

Joydeep Chatterjee, one of our member wrote:

"I was thinking of having all internet cybercafe's getting registered with ISOC Kolkata. From our side we can give some certifications based on some cehcks and compliances that the cycbercafe has to undergo. There are several 'unregisterd' cybercafe's and maybe this initiative will differentiate between 'ISOC certified' and non-certified cafes.Currently there is no certification body and this can definitely be revenue earler for the chapter too (in terms of certificate renewal etc)"

Please post your views as to what you think on this and how it can be carried forward.

Kolkata Chapter of ISOC is Reality

Hello All,
Greetings & Happy New Year 2009!!

The new Year has definitely started with a positive note as our Chapter Application has been accepted by ISOC and India Kolkata Chapter of Internet Society is now a reality. You can see it at the following link: http://www.isoc.org/isoc/chapters/list.php?region=&status=A&view=&id=266#266.

There are numerous Internet specific or related areas which requires immediate attention and can we worked upon with focus as state of West Bengal.

The areas primarily can be divided into Education, Awareness, Research, Collaboration & Chapter Activities. Please do let me know your thoughts on how you want to be associated with the Chapter mentioning the area of interest.

The first step is now complete and we need to move ahead with lot of vigor and enthusiasm.
