ISOC IKOL Presenting in Corporates

As part of its mission to spread the awareness about Internet Society and the oppurtunities of engagement with ISOC, ISOC-IKOL is conducting series of sessions in corporates. The sessions lined up are as follows:
a) Siemens- Thursday, 19th Feb from 4-5 PM.
b) NIIT- Saturday 27th Feb from 5-6 PM.

ISOC-IKOL Participating in KSPIN

The next Kolkata - SPIN (Software Process Improvement Network) meeting has been scheduled on 9th Feb, 2009 from 5PM to 7 PM wherein Kolkata Chapter of ISOC is participating in SPIN to create awareness about existence of ISOC Kolkata Chapter and the Activities and Opportunities for Engagement for individuals and organizations.

Please let me know your interest to join the meeting so that arrangements can be made accordingly.

Online Student Magazine

Srinwantu Dey one of our members wrote:

"It's definitly the time to take initiative in the Kolkata region. The thing which I am really worried in this circumstances, is about the mis-interpretation of Internet among the school children. The thing which we can start as of now, is start a online student magazine where we could have put off articles or papers for proper internet guidance. The E-Zine will be open for any article submission by students also. We can contact the Government and schools for memberships and promotions."

Cybercafe Certification

Joydeep Chatterjee, one of our member wrote:

"I was thinking of having all internet cybercafe's getting registered with ISOC Kolkata. From our side we can give some certifications based on some cehcks and compliances that the cycbercafe has to undergo. There are several 'unregisterd' cybercafe's and maybe this initiative will differentiate between 'ISOC certified' and non-certified cafes.Currently there is no certification body and this can definitely be revenue earler for the chapter too (in terms of certificate renewal etc)"

Kolkata Chapter of ISOC is Reality

Hello All,
Greetings & Happy New Year 2009!!

The new Year has definitely started with a positive note as our Chapter Application has been accepted by ISOC and India Kolkata Chapter of Internet Society is now a reality. You can see it at the following link: http://www.isoc.org/isoc/chapters/list.php?region=&status=A&view=&id=266#266.

There are numerous Internet specific or related areas which requires immediate attention and can we worked upon with focus as state of West Bengal.

The areas primarily can be divided into Education, Awareness, Research, Collaboration & Chapter Activities. Please do let me know your thoughts on how you want to be associated with the Chapter mentioning the area of interest.

The first step is now complete and we need to move ahead with lot of vigor and enthusiasm.

India Kolkata Chapter of Internet Society

The Internet Society (ISOC) is a nonprofit organisation founded in 1992 to provide leadership in Internet related standards, education, and policy. With offices in Washington, USA, and Geneva, Switzerland, it is dedicated to ensuring the open development, evolution and use of the Internet for the benefit of people throughout the world. In this context, the Chapters of ISOC are the nodal points to carry forward the mission of ISOC with regional and local perspective.

India Kolkata Chapter of ISOC is being formed with the following purpose:

a. to serve the interests of a segment of the global Internet community through a local presence, focus on local issues and developments, and increased use of local languages for Internet.

b. To further educate West Bengal’s scientific community, local businesses, and the public at large with respect to the technology, use, and applications of the Internet;

c. To promote educational applications of Internet technology in State of West Bengal for the benefit of government, schools, colleges, and universities, industry, and the public at large;

d. To provide a forum for local entrepreneurs, professionals, students, and government officials to explore and help develop new Internet application, and to stimulate collaboration among organizations in their operational use of the Internet.
